Organic skin care makes sense

toxic_skin_careYour skin is a living breathing organ one of the largest on your body. Everything you put on it at least 80% goes into your bodies system. When I was young, and didn’t know any better, I’d smother the my face and body with store-bought skin care products and fragrances that promised you if you used them, you’d become elegant, beautiful and glamorous. never thinking for a split second about what was actually IN them. They had exquisite packaging, big advertisements in the top women’s fashion magazines. They had to be good for you right? No, not by a long shot!

toxic_skin_care2Growing up during the height of a processed food nation, it would take a rare mind to stop and think, “Hm m … what’s in this stuff?” Should I actually read the label? Even if I do, what are these ingredients and what will they do to my health, let alone how to pronounce them? In other words, I stayed uneducated and oblivious, taking things as they were — until, as a young adult, my health became compromised on numerous levels. You name it. I suffered from it. Then I became really ill at 32 and had to make a change, and a big one.

good_4_you_foods-300x207A gifted Naturopath helped me “get well” and got me started learning the real deal about health, I had to go into complete overhaul. Let’s face it, you can’t just change one or two little habits and think your life will transform. I was waking up. I was making a conscious effort to take my health seriously. I had one body, one life, and I was ready to take control. That meant I needed to make quality and conscious decisions about not only what I was going to eat, who I was going to spend time with, what products I was going to clean my house with, and, what I was going to put on my Skin. Our skin is the largest organ in our body and absorbs more than 80% of what we put on it. So if you’re putting toxins on it, you’re making yourself toxic! Yikes!

image11Going Organic is not just a fad. It’s not something you subscribe to because you want to appear and look ‘cool.’ I will be adding posts in the near future on “baby steps” you can do to start to change your life. Organic means safe, and that’s the bottom line.

phenoxyethanolI began to look at the “organic” and “natural products” available and saw that most of them contained chemical ingredients, and most that promised to be “parabens free” now contained Phenoxyethanol as a preservative, which has been linked to many illnesses. According to the FDA: “Phenoxyethanol is a preservative that is primarily used in cosmetics and medications. It also can depress the central nervous system and may cause vomiting and diarrhea”.

lavender-oil-300x199Just think about it, if you’re buying a cream that is in a jar, and you are dipping fingers into it…how much preservative do you think they will need to put into it so it won’t start to grow bacteria and mold? I choose to create Pavita skin care, a 100% organic or wild-crafted, non-GMO skin care line.
